any big cost down the road for maintanance? timing belt, water pump anything along those lines that go bad at a certain mileage? expensive up keep?
All Porsche maintance is expensive, at the very least above indusrty avg. Go to car-survey.com and see what other Boxster owners say. best of luck
The Boxster in general is not requiring high maintenance, however, maintenance is expensive, as with any other german car. The best option is to always make sure that you buy a maintenance plan from Porsche if you buy a Boxter that is already out of its plan, or the alternative, buy a car that is still in its 5yr/100000km plan cycle. I had no problems with my 2001 model whasoever, after travelling 20,000km.
To answer your question, there is a timing chain so no expense there. As for others, our water pump went out at about 85K miles and I replaced it myself for about $120. The regular maintenance is expensive, but with 15K mile oil changes it averages out to around the same cost as any other car that uses Mobil 1 oil. If you can DIY a lot of work, it's a great, easy car to work on. The only "common problem" issues I've dealt with are the coolant tank cracking and the oil separator going bad. Total cost for both as a DIY was around $500. Not bad for a car with over 100K miles now. :) I'm about to do the clutch too for $500 DIY.
