HELP PLEASE 1997 Firebird 3.8 v6 starting issues
My engine will roll over and occasionally try to crank, but will not. It will also backfire at times. It has a
3.8 v6 in it. There is no distributor, but acts like it is out of time. Any help or suggestions would be greatly
check your ignition coil and spark module, if it is backfiring it means it IS out of timing. definately an electrical/ignition issue
Do you have a voltometer? My 89 Camaro had that same issue. It didnt backfire though because no voltage was getting across to the sparkplugs. There was somthing wrong with the distrubuter and other wiring. But yours doesnt have a distributer, so I would also suggest it is the timing.
there are a few help sites out there, like firebirdnation.com they have a great help site, I'm sure there a fourth gen site like thridgen.org out there do a search you might find the answer out there and have a greater data base to go off of
how many miles on the car? is it backfiring through the exhaust or the intake?
