Driver side window won't go up or down. Seems as though it has to charge.

Asked by Sippngas Jun 26, 2012 at 07:09 PM about the 1998 Pontiac Sunfire 2 Dr GT Coupe

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1998 SunFire GT, 2.4 liter.  In 2008 the driver window first acted up.  It will go up or down halfway. It seems
to have to recharge for a few minutes then will continue the rest of the way, up or down. It is so annoying!  In 2008
when it first did it ('08) it bought a new switch set.  This worked for about 4 months then started doing it again. So I
put the old switch back in. It worked fine for 4 more years, then Ilt started doing it again last February of 2012. I have
checked the fuses, and have absolutely no clue what to do. I am pretty good with cars but this has me stumped.
Went to auto store and had them hook up the computer. Still no answers. Please, please help no money for new
car.

Unplug the window motor and apply direct 12v to power it to check it. If it works good then work your way into the plugs, wires, and short to grounds.
