overheating

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

my 2.4 sunfire has been overheating and gurgling when shut off.  Changed thermostat, didn't help.  Water pump appears to be fine.  Ran water through radiator in both directions and did not seem restricted.  No oil in water nor water in oil.  Seems to run fine but temp. gauge is just below warnings.  Could this be a head gasket?  or any ideas?

I would replace the radiator cap if you have not already.

This overflow cap is pressurized. Change the cap. Its $8 to 9 and could have saved a great deal of $ on other repairs, but leason learned.
