Weird noise

Asked by Feb 16, 2017 at 12:17 PM about the 1999 Pontiac Sunfire 2 Dr GT Coupe

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My car was leaking oil and I was told it was a head gasket
seal so I took it to a mechanic and they replaced it but they
also said my timing chain cover gasket and timing chain
tensioner was shot so they got replaced too. But on my way
home the car was violently shaking and loud noise on low
rpm, even stalled out in reverse. So I took it to another
mechanic and he found the timing chain tensioner spring
wasn't in there so he put a new one in and realigned my
cams. But now my car sounds like a diesel engine
whenever it's below a 1000 rpm it's 2.4L twin cam

I'd double check with that last mechanic who replaced the timing chain tensioner, but it just may be the timing chain making a little noise, I wouldn't think it would anything to worry about, but just double check with the last mechanic.
