Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I bought a 1999 Pontiac Sunfire gt the
other day and it's throwing the error code
p0301 cylinder 1 misfire I took it too a shop
and they replaced my plugs and put a new
fuel injector in and it was still misfiring the
misfire rate goes down the faster you go
the mechanic told me too try and give it on
a backroad and it might clear because it
could of have the problem for a long time
but it went away and came back I just
don't know where to go from here any help
would be appreciated

You have two coil packs, and if one were bad you would have more than one cylinder misfire, but check covers for any hot spots or signs or arcing. A noid light would help determine if you have proper pulse signal supplied by PCM. A loss of fuel pressure can also cause misfire, check fuel rail and regulator, esp. at misfiring cylinder, that's where I'd start looking.
