I have a 2000 Pontiac sun-fire ignition turns over but not starting and lights come on dash board what could be the problem please help
was starting fine then all of a sudden went to turn it over nothing happen just lights in
dash board came on and hear a clicking sound, then nothing
Have battery checked
Done did battery good
Check starter fuse and relay next
I'll check it tomorrow let you know if it works thank u
OK its been checked already not could it be the ignition switch itself
Their a box clicking could that cause it not to start
Might be the neutral safety switch, turn the key to the on position and put the car in neutral, try to start. if it starts then safety switch is bad.
Won't start in neutral
The starter cranks, correct?
Someone told me its in the key switch
if it were the ignition switch it probably wouldn't crank, check if fuel pump is working, have someone listen at the fuel cap, turn key to on position but do not crank, the pump should make a humming sound for a second then shut off
Fuel pumps good
I think I'm about to give up lol
Check all fuses to ecm
OK what is ecm
The ecm controls all the engine functions through the use of sensors
I took it had it put on computer their trying to say its the starter and the steering column telling me I had to replace all before it will start not sounding right, saying replacing the key switch wouldn't work
That doesn't sound right at all, did they give an explanation as to why?
No they didn't
But I'm requesting a print out for where they put it on computer, going to have a friend check it out because he said it didn't sound right also
