I have a 96 3.8 v6 ford thunderbird, an I think I threw a rod? Tried putting oil in an it pours out right before the oil pan by the frame were I can't see.
You can swap for a 4.6L, as the '96 T-Bird came with both engines. But do your research on what parts you might need to do the swap. There are lots of online resources in doing this. Search on the T-Bird forums and Mustang forums on how to properly do it. Are you good at working on cars? You probably need the trans too and a new ECM and wiring harness, motor mounts, exhaust etc.
Yes, the two are just about interchangable. You need to make sure to get the ECIU when you make the swap as the computers are different. Also, I am not sure the bell housings are interchangeable.
