Not overheating but has smoke coming from hood
2001 Bonneville 3.8 non supercharged im
not overheating but its smoke cpming from
the hood. Last work i had done the throttle
body. I cant find a leak either. Any idea
whats goin on?
Most likely has leaking valve cover gasket and it is leaking down the engine block and leaking onto the exhaust pipe.
I believe that your Bonneville was involved in a 2009 recall which involved replacing the front spark plug wire retainer. You'll want to visit your local GM Dealer and have that taken care of. The old style retainer on these engines is a fire hazard. While your there have them check out the source of the smoke and advise you of the repair needed. Sounds like leaking valve cover gaskets or possibly a leaking throttle body gasket. There's a coolant passage that runs around the throttle body on the plastic upper intake (plenum). The upper plenum may be cracked and leaking coolant. They're notorious for cracking. HTH. -Jim
