We are looking at buying a 2001 Pontiac Aztek. It has 199,000 mile's on it How long will it last..?
How Good is the 3400 motor and what major problem's does this type of Vehicle have. Is
it worth buying and second Aztek
Depends on price. Personally I would be very very careful with any car with 200k. Recommend compression test, and if it smokes now... no way. But sometimes an engine will last beyond 200k if it has had good maintenance history, that is critical
Two totally polarized opinions on that car.
These motors blow head gaskets!! Only buy this vehicle if the head gaskets have been done and you have proof of this!! Personally I wouldn't buy it! HTH. -Jim
Thank You very much for your response. We decided not to buy this Vehicle. My has 232,330 mile's on the same motor. It is a Pontiac Bonneville. She is still running good but has seen her day's. Thank you again Robin Johnson
You're welcome, Robin. Glad to help. I think you made the right decision. -Jim
Don't buy it, unless for parts
As much as I like these Azteks they are probably the worst car on the U.S. market. While many will make it to the 180,000/200,000 mile mark - after that they can be relied on only to fail. Head gaskets blow, dash lights and gages fail, radio lights fail, (most of the electrical system goes to junk), many trans. fail, front wheel bearings fail, and there is more. Not a cheap car to maintain - though a very comfortable ride while it lists.
