Whats wrong with my firebirds oil pressure?

Asked by WilliamDuque Jul 08, 2024 at 08:34 PM about the 2002 Pontiac Firebird Base

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

o everytime I drive my car on the highway for about
an hour the next day my engine will knock and the
oil pressure gauge on my dash will shoot up and
down until it goes to normal which my car will stop
knocking. Never any oil pressure problem or
knocks when driving in town, only the day after a
high drive. The knock and oil pressure will only last
about 5 min until it's good again.

Sounds like oil pump failure. If it has been knocking then engine damage has already occurred.
