steering column

Asked by Feb 04, 2017 at 06:33 PM about the 2004 Pontiac Sunfire Base

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I just installed a steering column in a 2004 pontiac sunfire. Went through the relearning procedure. Now no lights car should crank and run. No such luck. It now turns over and backfires but does not crank and run. Any thoughts beside a stick of dynamite

The security system relearn procedure will not work in your situation. Transfer the complete ignition switch assembly and lock cylinder from the old steering column to the replacement steering column. HTH. -Jim

Then, unfortunately, after it's all put back together you'll have to be towed to your local GM dealer to have both the anti-theft module and keys programmed to the car. There's no way around it. Sorry! HTH. -Jim
