Unable to make a copy of key that wiil start vehicle
I have had several copies of the vehicle key made. Key vendor says key does not have security chip, but although keys work in all locks it will not start the vehicle.
You are right, any copy of the the key without the security or transponder chip will only unlock the doors and you'll be able to put it in the ignition. You need to purchase a transponder chip key, have that cut to the keys you have now, and program the new key. If you have at least one or more other Transponder keys you can do it yourself with the information in your owners manual , or you can find the instructions online. If you have no other transponder key and you lost it, then a trip to the dealership is in order, as they will need to program your new key.
