Where would I find the instrument cluster so I can check my wiring?
So did you find the bad ground or was it in the connector on the cluster?
Where is this cluster located?
The instrument cluster is the assembly that houses all of the guages, you have to remove that to check the connections and wiring behind it.
So I need to remove my dashboard?
No the cluster can be removed by itself, you need to be a but of a contortionist and have good lighting and the proper tools like a torx driver set with long handle as some of the bolts are recessed.
look above the driver foot well, and remove the cover... some of the wiring will be visible. it will eventually snake its way through the firewall. hope that helps, all the best.
Ok got to the cluster nothing amiss. However after doing so and unpluging then plugging things back in.. oh yeah the box where everything connects was mounted loosely, so I changed that. So now everything is secure and the guages started working except for the exterior temperature. All I get are 3 dashes it its place. .. Thanks for all the previous help. Where might I find the ambient temperature sensor?
Great so now disconnect the battery, turn on the headlight switch, wait 30 seconds or more, turn off headlight switch, reconnect battery and see if the system will reboot with everything functioning. There could also be a wiring problem for the sensor, Measure the resistance of the sensor, it is located in front of the radiator, it should be 77*F 970ohms min to 1020ohms. depending on your outside temp this should be close. So if that checked good them wiring is the next step.
Full time HVAC tech here however I enjoy working my own vehicles. I will take the next step suggested and be in touch. Thanks.
