Oil Pressure Gauge went down, check engine light, No Codes

Asked by Van May 27, 2020 at 01:16 PM about the 1996 Ford Ranger XLT Standard Cab SB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1996 Ford Ranger 4.0 with manual transmission.  Driving about 65
MPH and noticed the oil pressure sensor had dropped.  Pulled over and
stopped car. No smell or smoke, check oil and it's full.  Car wouldn't crank.
Towed it, and now the check engine light comes on, no crank, and can't pull
codes or vehicle info on my diagnostic tool.  Does this sound like the PCM is
dead?  I disconnected the battery (only 6 months and tested fine) for 10
minutes, reconnected, and nothing. Would an defective oil sensor also cause
a no crank?

I did check the fuses related to PCM, OBD-II, and alternator. Alternator is only 2 1/2 years old. It is a Ranger XLT if that matters.
