1996 explorer rear hatch glass is up. Struts fully engaged. How do I disengage the strut so I can close the rear window?

Rear window open.  I cannot figure out how to disengage the Dean window
struts so I can close the rear window.  Please Help!

The ends are like a ball socket, get a pair or pliers to rotate them some, they must be stuck, uses some WD-40 os something similar to free them up.
