1996 ford explorer, starts fine, runs rough intermitently.
Started on highway trip after filing the tank. After 100 miles, engine would miss, not much but noticeable.
My 96 did the same a few years. Cleaned the MAF and it ran fine. Give it a try, it's not hard.
The Ford V6 engines don't Idle smoothly to begin with but OJ might have the answer you need. Spark plug wires are a common failure on these engines - along with valve covers that leak oil all over them. You could try spraying dish washing soap and water on the plug wires with the engine running and listen carefully or watch for a misfire. Sometimes this method works really well to find a bad Spark Plug Wire Boot.
