Gas smell

when i start my pathfinder, there as a obvious very strong odor of fuel in the vehicle and outside the vehicle. I dont see a gas leak anywhere, and when i start driving it thins out eventually, but the smell is still there and i dont know what it is. someone told me it could be an exhaust leak but i dont really know for sure. any help would be appreciated.
