Starting problems

Asked by Tenisahenderson Feb 21, 2016 at 12:23 PM about the 1995 Nissan Pathfinder 4 Dr SE 4WD SUV

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

We have replaced the timing belt and water
pump but it will not crank, sounds as if it
isn't getting fire.

1 Answer

Whenever you replace a timing belt, be sure to check plugs, plug wires, alternator and O2 sensor. If they are not in good shape when the timing belts replaced it will draw too much power and burn out your alternator. Just had this happen with my 95 XE. If you replace the plugs and wires, jump the battery and see if that solves your problem before replacing the alternator, it may not be necessary. Also. check your relay fuses before doing anything else to be sure they are in good shape.
