I have a 97 Nissan pickup and it won't take the gas and I hooked it to a computer and it said the # 1 fuel system is closed. What does that mean or what do I need to do to fix this problem?

Most likely it's the vent valve for the EVAP system that's stuck closed. This valve is normally open when you shut off the ignition so that during fueling the gasoline vapors are forced into the purge canister. Then when you start the engine again the vapors are pulled into the engine to be burned instead of being released into the atmosphere. HTH. -Jim

Well put Jim. Couldn't agree more. .BrianRiv when you put gas in the tank the air and fumes have to go somewhere..right? So instead of back in your face and the air,. they go in to EVAP system
