Exhaust Cam Broken - Pls help
Some days back I started getting jerks while driving at lower speeds in my 97 Nissan Altima.. upon inspection found that the Exhaust camshaft has broken at the notches near the distributor end. Nissan dealer has quoted $300 for a custom cam to be cut and $1200 for labor for replacement.
With such old car I am not interested in putting in too much money on it and I am looking for alternatives.
Please let me know if:
1. Can I weld small spots on the cam that are enough for the distributor to be engaged while keeping the camshaft intact? Are there any seals that could be affected due to heat generated while welding?
2. Is it possible to replace the exhaust camshaft with one from junkyard without having to remove the engine mount and timing chains for removing sprocket?
1. no, 2 no
