I have a 2000 Nissan maxima all my dash lights came on lost power until I hit the gas car is off but the lights are still on dim and my belt was making a whistling noise before it cut off

It sounds like your serpentine belt has failed. Your battery still had some juice but the alternator was no longer recharging it.
