2000 Nissan Frontier XE EGR OBDII Monitor Incomplete
I have a 2000 Nissan Frontier XE that has been going through the California smog test hell hole currently. A few months ago the CEL threw a P0400 code. I got it checked and turned out there was a clog in the EGR. I got that fixed. No more light. Yay! Fast forward a few weeks later when it was time to get a smog test. The smog tech tells me that the EGR monitor is not compete and that I need to complete the drive cycle and drive it for a few more miles. I did what I was told. Brought it back a week or two after that... still NOT COMPLETE. The guy gives me same response. I do the same thing. OVER AND OVER. It has been 2 or so months of this crap and the EGR monitor is still not complete! All the other monitors are fine except that one. The vehicle runs fine. So what can possibly be preventing the EGR monitor from completing? Please help.
Maybe it is time for a new ECM.

From what I'm reading on this code, I think there is still a problem with the EGR system. I think your mechanic should have another look....Possible causes; Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) volume control valve stuck closed, Faulty Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) volume control solenoid valve, Faulty EGR Valve Faulty EGR temperature sensor and circuit, Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) solenoid valve harness is open or shorted, Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) solenoid valve circuit poor electrical connection, Dead (Weak) battery.
I'm reply to the answers I received, my CEL no longer comes on since I unclog the EGR. So no more DTCs show up when I plug in my scanner anymore. All the other monitors set just fine though. And my battery is only a year or so old.
Does the scanner indicate that the drive cycle is complete or in progress?
It just says incomplete. The smog tech guy reset the OBDII system when I first got the EGR unclog. When he did that the other monitors reset as well, but once I did the drive cycle the completed just fine EXCEPT for this darn EGR. It's driving me insane for months on end now.
I would go through Rowefast's list.
There is an underlying problem some where. EGR system components all need to be checked, and look for broken wires, which usually a cure at plugins.
I wonder whats telling the technician that the EGR monitor is still not complete. No codes, how do you know what to look for? Do you have a print out of the test results? I have heard horror stories about smog techs. out in California.
I have the OBDII scanner so I check it myself as well. No DTCs being thrown. The smog tech also told me the same. No codes, just for some odd reason the EGR monitor is not ready. Here in California, your car can pass everything in smog and emissions... but if ANY of the monitors in the OBD system shows up "incomplete" they deem it as a "FAIL" because they said its "not ready..." It's a pain in the ass.
