My car won't go past 30 MPH

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So to start out, my car one day started to shake (very noticeable, like a jerk) when I would stop at a light or something similar, sometimes even turning off when I was stopped. This would not happen to much, maybe once a week. A few weeks after that I was driving home and could not get past 30 mph hitting about 5000 rpms. I then let my car sit for a few days, and tried driving it again. This time it was driving a little better but the car would do one big jerk when it was shifting to the next gear and the shaking/ car turning off when stopped. After a day or two the car was then again unable to get past 30 MPH. I changed out the transmission fluid and filter and it still wont get past the 30mph problem and the car shaking when idle.

I got a C1145 and C1175 on my scan which are my speed sensors. Would those cause the car not to shift? Also last night I found a hole melted in one of my hoses that is coming out of the engine. It had a green cap on one end of it and, the hole sounds like air is getting sucked in there when the care is running.

the vacuum leak would be the first thing to take care of , it might be setting off codes or causing sensors to throw them , you'll have to get the code definitions I don't know them off hand , the codes tells you where the trouble is not necessarily what to replace , I mean the speed sensors could be bad but with both going it might be something else setting it off

So I am wanting to get the hose fixed to see if this solves my problems, but I am unsure what this hose is or what it does. I went into auto zone and asked but the seem to have no Idea. I hope that this picture helps

I had the same problem as the op. I replaced the ‘split hose’ & the car still has the same ‘won’t go faster than 20-30mph’ issue. Bought 1 foot of 3 diff sized ‘hose’ from auto zone to replace the broken section.

Are the speed sensor codes your getting from the transmission? If there are input and output speed sensor issues the trans won't know which gear it should be in and will default to limp home mode(30-40mph, may stay in a certain hear like 2nd or 3rd) These codes can be caused by metal shaving build up in the fluid, interrupting the reluctor ring. Or the sensors themselves could be faulty. Either way I'd recommended taking it to mechanic you trust..... Unless your prepared to drop the trans pan and valve body
