Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 97 Ford Ranger 4.0L. If I use an egr block off plat to eliminate the egr won’t it set
off the check engine light and what about the egr solenoid and anything else related to the
egr how is that affected?

Yes it will turn on the light, you could also have a pinging problem which in turn will cause the ECM to retard the spark so you loose engine performance and mileage. You could try to have the ECM reprogrammed to ignore the EGR circuit but your power could still be reduced.

Fix it right, NOX emissions are a deadly gas. Your vehicle still requires inspection or emission tests. If you live in an area where they require it, that is. Your valve and sensor can be cleaned and or replaced and your solenoid for vacuum supply can too. Your vehicle uses its valve to cool the combustion at cruise. If the passage is clean, and the valve operates right, no problem, so why would ya?

You can even find good parts at the u-pull-it yards. Cost goes way low, so what is your actual issue?
