Why do I loose my brakes, if I am driving over 55 mph?

Asked by Apr 26, 2015 at 07:15 PM about the 2002 Nissan Maxima GXE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2002 Maxima, trans drags, and the "service engine" light is on. However, when diagnostics are run, the transmission comes up as having no problems. If I travel on a highway doing 55mph or more, I loose my brakes. Pumping brings them back up. But my nervous system may never recover. I just had new brake pads put on the front. I believe this was done 1 week ago. Why is this happening?

Sounds like you may put yourself and those around you in a VERY dangerous situation, if you keep driving the car this way. Right off the bat, I'm wondering what the condition of the brake lines and rotors are. Highly suggest that you have the braking system checked out ASAP!

You're probably low on brake fluid or the system needs to be bled. Have it TOWED to a shop to find out. Please don't drive it until the brakes are fixed! The car can be replaced but you can't!! HTH. -Jim
