2003 Nissan Sentra Engine 2.5 Limited Edition Issues
On Friday I was driving on the freeway at 75 mph and my car felt like it hit something
(nothing was in the road however), then it went for about a quarter mile and then the
tachometer dropped to 0 and the engine shut off and I was able to pull into a rest area. I
let the car sit for a little then tried to start it again, and it was rough, barely started then
died. So I called a tow company to take the car to the shop. Once I got to the shop I
started the car easily and it ran, making a few squeeking noises here and there. It moved
at idle while in drive and in reverse too. Reved the engine and the tachometer didnt move.
Rpm stayed at 0. Now the shop is saying it is a main bearing issue and itll cost 5000
dollars to fix, does this sound at all correct? There were also metal shavings in my oil but
not giant chunks, just little bits which I've heard is relatively normal.
For 5k you should get a whole new engine. If the engine isnt knocking and making noise then i dont think there is anything wrong with the bearings. I know the 4cyls have problems with cam sensors that would make it not not start and shut off if it were malfunctioning.
5k is expansive to repair a 10 yo car. You should also consider getting another car if this is possible.
