No start. I can hear starter spinning but engine doesn't crank

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hello all. Yesterday i tried to start my 04 4cyl manual tranny frontier and got a clicking
noise. After pushstrating it and driving to get a new battery... it started just fine.
Today, i tried to start it and the starter spins and makes a sound, but i do not hear the
engine cranking. The only thing that has happened in between this was trying to
program a keyless remote by putting key in/out of ignition several times, until i found
that my remote was missing the circuit board, so i gave up. Can this be related or is it
something else? Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you.

Just to be sure, put a volt meter on your battery and see if it has 12 volts. You may have a bad alternator. If battery tests fine, rap the starter with a hammer a few times. Sounds like it's not fully extending to meet the fly wheel. If after rapping on it, it does work, I would replace it. It will fail on you eventually.

Upon further troubleshooting, my ears deceived me and it appears that the engine is cranking but i have no start. I guess my main concern now is if something can go wrong by trying to program the keyless entry remote several times. If not, then i guess its the usual spark, fuel, or air problem
