Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hi,  I have a 2005 Nissan Quest that stall within 15
seconds of starting. A month ago,  engine was
misfiring and mechanics replaced ignition coils.
Also a valve cover oil leak was found but they
didn't fix it.  A week later,  engine was again
misfiring and they fixed a fourth coil. Still did not fix
the leak.  Gave it back and my battery died a week
later. They said my battery was dead,  but the
battery is only a year old and was replaced at the
same time as the alternator (same mechanics). So
they replaced the battery and said it was causing
the misfire prior to the battery dying completely.

Picked the van up,  drove about 3 hours worth, and
engine starting idling roughly.  I drove as quickly
home as I could,  now the van starts,  but it sounds
rough and the engine dies within 15 seconds.  I've
dumped over $1300 in repairs and now my van
isn't drivable at all.  What could the problem be,
other than my mechanics seem to be taking me for
a long,  expensive ride?

Usually it is best to change all coil pack,s not just one at a time, this is because every mechanic know,s that you replace one ,the next weakest will fell, and customer will have to pay each time they come back,it,s a money game,i allway,s replace all my customer,s coil packs when only one is bad,to prevent this to my consumer, replace them all your issue will go away.

Not all of them. I had a good mechanic that I still use from time to time but unfortunately he's 40 minutes away and my issues recently have left my car unsafe to drive for that sort of time. I've never taken a car immediately back to him for a screw up. (He did the timing chain 2 years ago, never had a single issue from that repair) Anyway, how does one disconnect that sensor? I don't know how to work on cars but I do have a little knowledge on symptoms of problems and what their causes may be.

And yes coil pack,s are expensive, but go online and you will save alot of money on the whole set.

Yes, I've been told the same about the coil packs and stated that I wanted the other pack done when they only ended up replacing the one. They said they were trying to save me money. What a crock. Also I read the valve cover leak can cause the ignition coils to fail, is that true?

unpluging a sensor will not stop the issue,i work on all type of car,s and the best way to solve your issue is what i said above, trust me.

But would a couple faulty coils cause my current issue? The vehicle wasn't misfiring until after 3 hours of driving and now I can't keep it running for longer than 15 seconds.

The oil leak may be causing the pack,s to go out, only if they have oil on them thoe, usually the pack,s on nissan are above the valve cover gasket.

Like, once it started losing power and trying to bottom out, I got home within 2 minutes and it's compelling undrivable now.

Check the packs for oil that will answer the question

Like i said if you replace one another will go bad,but check the packs and see if you find oil on them,if so that will be what is killing them,if not they die only when you start replacing them one at a time.

If the coils are fine what's possibly the new issue? Something power-related? They just replaced a year old battery saying it was shot. I know there would have to be something wrong because a battery that new shouldn't be dead.

But will cause skipping if bad.You should not have wire,s tho,if you have coil packs.

Here is a link to the full dealer service/repair manual. Not Haynes or Chilton, it's a service/repair manual. Very comprehensive. Perhaps you can find an answer there. http://pdf.textfiles.com/manuals/AUTOMOBILE/NISSAN/quest/

My 1996 Nissan Quest does the same I've replaced the distributor cap rotor wire's and plugs fuel filter the gas was dark and full of what looked like carbon, I'm now in the process of replacing the fuel pump the only other thing I didn't do besides a new fuel injection system is the fuel pressure regulator.it starts idles for 10 seconds then stalls

My Nissan Quest doesn’t die completely, but stalls on take off then after about 30 seconds will take off. Now it just idles but it doesn’t rev up or anything when you hit the gas it just barely idles. Would that be a coil pack issue.
