Misleading price listed

Asked by BJZ54889193 Feb 08, 2022 at 06:23 PM about the 2019 Hyundai Elantra SEL FWD

Question type: Shopping & Pricing

This car was listed as a great deal at $14,495.   When I went to the dealer
(Hyundai of New Rochelle), they told me that was the "finance price only" after
a $1,995 down payment.   This is completely misleading and fraudulent.  How
do you verify pricing, etc.?

I'd contact the seller or dealer before you take a trip to see what the asking price and other details , like is it still available, etc.

Dealers make more money financing a car than they make in the sale. Was this ad misleading; no. This is typical of both used and new car dealers. Never take an ad seriously; verify the terms before you get into it. It takes time, but you will learn what everyone else has learned: never trust any dealer..... Of course, you can play their game. I've never done this with a used car, but when I shop for a new car, I always tell the sales jerk that I'm interested in financing. I always get a lower price than it would have been in a prospective cash deal. After sales, you get to the finance guy. Let him tell you all the finance programs and then tell him you prefer to pay cash. Once you get that far, a dealer won't want to lose a sale, so you're likely to get that finance price for cash.

And you wonder why people hate car dealers.
