A4 wagon roof rack accessories

I just picked up a 99 Audi A4 Avant wagon for my kids to drive to school.  It has a really solid roof rack, but it only consists of 2 lengthwise beams well anchored to the roof.  Does anyone have suggestions on where to acquire or fashion cross beams, so that Yakima or Thule accessories could be mounted to the existing rack?

So the Audi A4 is essentially a Volkswagen Jetta (Volkswagen produces Audi). I would look for a 1999-2004 Jetta Wagon (for parts) on Ebay or in a salvage yard. The Jetta's roof rack is much more sturdy and secure than its A4 cousin. Best of luck!
