White smoke & dirty looks

Asked by Frankie Feb 13, 2019 at 01:22 AM about the 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer ES

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2002 Lancer ES is blowing white
smoke out the tailpipe. It doesn’t
smoke constantly, just at random
times while I’m driving. It’s slow to
accelerate but the smoke doesn’t
smell sweet or anything. The engine
has been shaking for a while because
I bought a motor mount set for it but
my ex husband only installed the
front one, he didn’t install the rear
motor mount so I believe it’s causing
the engine to shake. I’m trying to sell
the car and use the money to go to
the police academy in Georgia but I’d
really like to maximize the profit
without intentionally ripping someone
off but also without having to invest
more than it’s worth. Any ideas fellas?

White smoke usually indicates coolant getting into one or more cylinders. Are u losing coolant? Bluish smoke is rings or valve seals.

Check your coolant and oil everyday. White crust or oil on plugs will indicate coplant or oil. Going to fleatech?

If there’s a coolant leak,it’s a tiny one because it still has coolant in the reservoir tank and the last time I refilled it was actually a few months ago. I do know that I have an oil leak, so I’m going to assume that we’re leaning towards oil leaking onto something and burning off until it becomes white smoke from the tailpipe? I’ll be attending Forsyth academy ; )
