Why does my ford contour shutter when going into OVERDRIVE

Asked by May 17, 2015 at 07:20 PM about the 1997 Ford Contour 4 Dr LX Sedan

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

It doesnt happen when in overdrive is off

1 Answer

Usually the shutter is caused by a burnt overdrive band. Common issue if you have over 100K miles on the ford transmissions. Might also be torque convertor replaced. Only way to fix is replace it, which means rebuilding the trans. So a couple thousand dollars.
