Remote Starter

Asked by Jan 23, 2017 at 12:41 AM about the 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer ES

Question type: General

Buying a car off someone and they installed a Remote Starter but he broke the first one and lost the 2nd
remote. Wondering if I have to buy a new set what's the estimation of the cost or can I find away to get the
same Remote?

Depends on the brand, there are literally hundred of brands out there. Since it is already wired for one, it's probably super easy to swap for a whole new unit- they are very inexpensive. Unless the wiring is a mess (it might be, I've seen some), it should take about an hour to install a new unit. The new ones, for a decent brand like DEI (who makes a lot of brands, actually) is about $100 in hardware. So maybe $200, tops.

He just told me the brand is Auto Page.

Those are anywhere from $60-$120 If they have the broken remote, you can probably order a replacement- you just need to know which type of remote it is and get instructions on how to program it to work on that car. Either that or buy a whole new unit from the same brand and just plug it in- have two new remotes and new box for $60-$80. Not sure I'd buy a car from someone so negligent, though.
