Car has idling problems.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My car recently needed a new alternator. Once I
had it replaced, the very next day, the check
engine light was on, and it would kick in first gear,
accelerating, and braking. The car would also idle
very high, sometimes it would get up to 5rpms. If I
shift it into drive to it will drastically drop. When I
move from park to drive, it shoots up and down
because it passes thru reverse(low idle), neutral(hi
idle), then drive is hi. I took it back where the
alternator was replaced, and they saw 2 hoses
were broken. One they were able to replace, as
well as remove the check engine light by plugging
in the scanner. I order the other hose which was
the air intake and replaced it. It still idles at around
2-3 rpms, but not as consistently as before. I tried
resetting the idle by unplugging, and now the
check engine is back on. Also, I recently had my
air fixed, and sometimes the car will get hot where
I need to turn it off, or drop the power of the fan. I
realized the fan that kicks on when I turn on the ac
sometimes doesn’t rotate, or is very weak.

All in all I’m wondering if someone can maybe give
me some advice. I’m sure it’s hard to diagnose
without seeing it, but it would be nice to maybe
have an idea of the issue, instead of being taken
for a ride by a mechanic. Any help is appreciated,
thank you.
