Need your advice

Asked by Apr 24, 2014 at 03:15 PM about the 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My car starts fine but there is a high pitched whining that comes from under the hood when accelerating. Runs good until I get out on the road then it seems to lose power and not want to go, jerks a lot. If I rev it up it will start working again until I have to shift then it goes back to feeling like there is no power. I've heard that noise before in a different car and as I remember it was the fuel pump. I am a 60 year old single woman on a very limited income and don't want to get ripped off or pay too much. What is your advice as to what it could be and cost? I just got ripped off with a new radiator so am a little leery of mechanics.

Need to try and locate where the noise is coming from. Could be something as simple as a pulley trying to seize up on alternator belt or as major as a timing belt or tensioners going out. Have some one you trust look at it ASAP. Cause if it is a timing belt issue and it breaks you will have bent valves and will need to have the heads worked. Major $ if it breaks.

Do you happen to be in lower Alabama?
