2005 Mitsubishi Endeavor screeching

Asked by Selfrepaired2420 Mar 29, 2020 at 03:40 AM about the 2005 Mitsubishi Endeavor XLS

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My SUV is screeching when started, when car is
cold and upon acceleration when cold. I will not
take it to dealership they can’t even change oil
properly. I’ve tried panther piss (ex-bf put wd-40
yes I lost sit when I found out) it worked for maybe
two days and would start again with the
screeching I applied more but stopped working
after two weeks. I’m attempting to repair myself
but I’m needing opinions and options. And
difficulty of repair and length of repair estimated
time.

Where did you spray the WD40, on the belt? The noise is probably a pulley. Remove the serpentine belt, and spin the pulleys by hand. You will notice if one is freely spinning and or making crunching and squeaks. The pulley should turn, but not continue to spin more than one turn. Replace those pulleys and reinstall the belt. Most times, it's the idler pulley or the belt tensioner pulley. Maybe it could be the belt tensioner assembly is worn and not keeping the belt at the proper tension? Worse case as far as cost is the alternator pulley bearing or the PS pump making noise and you have to replace those. Make sure the PS reservoir is filled with fluid. Replace the serpentine belt is you haven't changed it in over 80K miles.

I DID NOT do said spraying of wd-40 so I’m really not sure but it’s of course getting slightly worseover time what does PS stand for?
