mini cooper convertible rear seat. How do I fold down the rear seats.

Asked by mini_s Mar 11, 2013 at 12:35 PM about the 2005 MINI Cooper S Convertible

Question type: General

How do I fold down the rear seats?
Can I fold down the rear seats without going through the trunk?
Where is the rear seat release/latch?
Which way/direction to I turn the key to unlock the rear seats.
Basically, I don't know how to fold down the seats.

Try over at http://www.redwoodempiremini.com/ - - I found a pdf copy of the owners manual but it was not for the convertible.

Pull out pins, spring return discrete location, slam action. Honestly have used them once and they can be opened either, neither and/or both. to be honest have used them only once and it was entirely intuitive~ there is no secret here but all is in an insulative vibration canceling tightness. pull-out pins are no secret to find- there really isn't "a trunk" rather a boot, and it has a flimsy security liner that fits one way and pops out very easily, as a matter of fact you really can't get to the pins but from over the top of the backseat, so must have a different model than a 2006 coupe-

seeing as your handle is mini_s, one has to assume that you're driving a cooper_S...lucky you, slightly different creature, but I'm certain this description fits-

maybe if you duck under the rear hatch, pull out the security liner (both tethers) and the slide out detent pins you could get to the back seat back release, except they flip forward...so best leave the security liner in place, and release them from reachin over the tops of the backseat.

You know today I found out that I was completely full of crap! the rear seats can be put forward with just a conventional handle to open, the mechanism knifing it's way in to latch- maybe in an altered state there were pins...to be honest, don't know what I was thinking at the time~

I have a 2014 Mini Cooper S Convertible and this is how I got rear seats to go down. See pictures.... There is a button on top of rear seats towards the outside that needs to be pushed. On the drivers side, I had to remove key from it's circle holder and place in keyslot to allow me to push button and lower seat. On both seats, the headrest was in the way if I needed front seats moved back. There is a pin on each of the rear seat head rests rails. You need to push them out. I used a small hex key L tool, but anything small and strong can do it. Once down, it was nice having the extra room. I did it with top down to make it easier. Once you do it once, its easy and now i can do without putting top down. Happy Mini-ing... Bubs :-)
