1993 mercury Capri not starting after alternator belt breaks

I replaced the belt with a gates belt now the car will
not start. I replaced the battery with a 35 group
525cca battery from Walmart since I had to drive
home after it broke. The engine sounds very weak
when I try to start it. I've checked all the fuses and
my fuel reset button in the trunk seems to be
pressed down to where I can't push it down. I can't
find much information on the problem. I have yet to
try to test the distributer with a screw driver.
