Coolant system

Asked by Nov 15, 2016 at 09:57 PM about the 1995 Mercury Cougar 2 Dr XR7 Coupe

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Coolant inside reservoir looks brown and smells like oil. I
checked the oil and it looks fine and the car hasn't
overheated. Any ideas what the problem could be?

You probably have a head gasket that is leaking oil into the cooling system.
