my1996 mercury cougar xr7 feels like i am driving with the parking brake on sounds like something is rubbing on front tires

Haven't drove car much in the last year. I took it out to sell it and all the sudden it feels like
something is dragging or holding car back and it sounds like something is rubbing on front
tires.  It had no transmission problems and brakes are fairly new.

You could have rust on the rotors from just sitting, if that is your problem it will go away with a few brake applications above 35mph. If it don't then you will have to raise the vehicle and find if a caliper is dragging in it's carrier.
