Why is the vehicle only shifting when warmed up

It only shifts when warm and when it shifts the first time it shifts fine from then until its
cold again.

It sounds like the seals within the Transmission are getting old and hard. They soften up when they warm up and do a better job of sealing pressure. It won't be long before you need to have this transmission "Freshened up".
