I have a 1997 Mercury Sable. The car will not start and the alarm will not go off.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Every time I go to turn the ignition the car alarm starts going off. How can I fix this?

First thing is to find the fuse & wire feeding the alarm and disconnect the wire from it. Then you need to know and trace the wires on the alarm system to see if it is just an audible alarm or if it is the type that disables the starting system. If it was an aftermarket add on alarm, those have been know to fail at some point and have to be removed from the car and any spliced wires returned to their pre-alarm connection state. You would not believe the hack jobs some "Alarm Installation" shops do on cars.
