Make sure th mode control is actually switching from A/C to heat, if the blend door is stuck you won't get any air flow through the core, another thing to check is the coolant level, if it is low the first thing that is effected is the heat, then after it is warmed to operational temp, feel both the heater hoses, they should feel quite hot, if one feels hot and the other not so much then you have a plugged heater core, sometimes back flushing it will help but usually you will have to replace it. This of assuming that the engine is reaching operational temps and the thermostat isn't stuck wide open so the engine is running cold.
