Vin ID versus actual engine

Asked by James Oct 04, 2020 at 02:31 PM about the 1998 Mercury Sable LS Sedan FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My vin shows an S intead of a U  for the
engine type and the car was bought new by
the previous owner (It's a one owner car) .
My question is how is it possible for the
engine to be a 24 valve Duratec Twin DOHC
when the vin says it's a OHV engine ?
