I went to crank my 1999 mercury villager it started and cut back off will not stay running what could be the problem?

Ameila, do you have a 2ND key? I had a similar problem and it turned out to be the computer chip in the key failed. My car would start for a second then stall, just like yours. I tried the other key and it started right up.
