How do you replace the water pump on a 2000 Mercury Mountaineer

I need to replace the water pump on my 2000 Mountaineer and cannot figure out how to remove the fan assembly.  Is there a trick to this?

It's a reverse thread and they sell a special tool/long wrench and another tool to hold the water pump pulley by the bolts to break it loose. You can rent it from your local auto parts store.....https://www.youtube.com/watch? v=R2HRnhpExqA
