In a 2000 murcery what would cause my car to lose power

The gadges  are not working and
some times won't allow me to start it

Sounds like a main power or ground supply is getting ready to go away, there are quite a few on this car, but I would start with cleaning the ones on the battery and engine first, if that didn't catch it then proceed on. You do have a good battery right?
