Mercury couga problems help please

I have a mercury couga 2000 and it would start jerking at about 70 on the
highway it would sometimes jerk around town at 35 then all of a sudden im
driving down the road at about 65 and it shuts off. I tried to start it and it
would'nt start but it will crank over but not start. I had just changed the fuel
pump today but it still won't start please help???

apologies...got my years mixed up...still there is a fuel pressure regulator...you could check to see if the diaphragm has been eaten by Techron and hold vacuum and works~
