where the alternator is located

Try looking above the steering column to the left almost up by the windshield. You will see the back of the ECU bolted in its holder and the wiring connector is to it from outside the firewall. If that doesn't find it then look around under the hood for a major group of wires (the wiring harness) connected by a 7x1/2 rectangular block bolted to a 8x6 plain metal (looks like bare sheet metal) box with heat sinks located on it.
